The MPTS has published its first annual parliamentary report.

Its publication reinforces the operational separation between the MPTS – which makes independent decisions on a doctors’ fitness to practise - and the General Medical Council’s (GMC) investigatory function.

The report to Parliament details what the MPTS does, its performance last year and its future plans.

Dame Caroline Swift, Chair of the MPTS, speaks about the work of the MPTS and its priorities in a blog published this week.

The MPTS secured parliamentary approval two years ago to improve the way it runs tribunal hearings.

Being placed on a statutory footing, with the responsibility with the responsibility of delivering an annual report to parliament, was among the changes introduced.
