Pre hearing information

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that, on one or more occasions between March 2018 and January 2019, Dr Chiam carried out private work and was unavailable to carry out his clinical duties as per his job plan with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (the Trust). It is also alleged that on two occasions Dr Chiam was dishonest in reasons that he gave the Trust for his inability to attend work and that on a further occasion Dr Chiam worked privately whilst on study leave from the Trust.

It is alleged variously that Dr Chiam’s actions were dishonest, financially motivated and compromised patient safety.

This reflects the allegation as it stands at the start of the hearing. The allegation may be amended as the hearing proceeds and when findings of fact are made by the tribunal.

All decisions are published online within 28 days of the conclusion of the hearing.

If you're a journalist and need up to date information about the allegation throughout the course of the hearing, please contact our press office at pressoffice@mpts-uk.org or call 0161 250 6868.

Private hearings
