The tribunal found that on 26 April 2022, at Istanbul Regional Court, Türkiye, Dr Akbaba was convicted of two counts of Simple Injury and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment. The tribunal also found that, on 6 June 2022, Dr Akbaba was convicted of Simple Threat and sentenced to a fine.
The tribunal found that the offences would constitute criminal offences in England and Wales and that Dr Akbaba failed to notify the GMC and NHS England without delay that he had been convicted.
The tribunal will reconvene to determine whether Dr Akbaba’s fitness to practise is currently impaired by reason of misconduct and a conviction.
