Her Honour Judge Deborah Taylor has been selected as the new Chair of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) and will take up the role on 1 March 2023.

On Monday 19 September we will close our hearing centre for the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The MPTS will continue to run virtual hearings and a small number of in-person hearings throughout the period of increased restrictions in England.

The UK Government has announced that the whole of England will come under new national restrictions from 5 November.

Earlier this week the UK government confirmed a tiered system of restrictions to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Dame Caroline Swift has been reappointed as Chair of the MPTS for a further two years. Dame Caroline has been Chair of the MPTS since January 2017 and her reappointment will see her continue in the role until 31 December 2022.

From the 3 August 2020, we will resume holding hearings in our hearing centre, ensuring we can continue to carry out our duty to protect the public.

In response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic we have been considering how we can best run MPTS hearings over the coming months.

We postponed most hearings on Wednesday 18 March to allow our medical tribunal members to help respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
