MPT review: stage one - impairment

At Stage one of a medical practitioners tribunal (MPT) review hearing, the MPT will consider the evidence provided by both parties (the GMC and doctor) to decide whether the doctor's fitness to practise remains impaired or not.

This stage outlines:

  • how decisions on impairment should be approached and how the previous tribunal's decision should be considered and,
  • the need to record reasons for decisions on impairment.
